• We send our condolences to Madeleine's family and friends. We were lucky to have known Madeleine and to have shared memorable times together. I particularly will treasure the time we took art classes together in California whilst she was visiting Guilli, and of meeting up on her visits to Cape Town and going to lunches at Kirstenbosch. I also recall with fondness the first time we visited Madeleine's home in Newlands, and admiring her beautiful paintings of boats and seascapes on the walls. And her wonderful cooking! She was a multi-talented woman. Thank you Guilli for taking such good care of your Mother in the last years. I know you made her life much easier and more enjoyable than it would have otherwise been. • Nous présentons nos condoléances à la famille et aux amis de Madeleine. Nous avons eu la chance de connaître Madeleine et de partager avec elle des moments mémorables. Je garderai un souvenir tout particulier de nos cours d'art suivis ensemble en Californie, alors qu'elle rendait visite à Guilli, ainsi que de nos retrouvailles lors de ses séjours au Cap et de nos déjeuners à Kirstenbosch. Je me rappelle aussi avec tendresse notre première visite chez elle à Newlands, où nous avions admiré ses magnifiques peintures de bateaux et de paysages marins accrochées aux murs. Sans oublier sa cuisine délicieuse ! C'était une femme aux multiples talents. Merci, Guilli, d'avoir si bien pris soin de ta mère ces dernières années ; je sais que tu as rendu sa vie bien plus facile et agréable qu'elle ne l'aurait été autrement.
